How She Impacted Me
As I said in the beginning, Lauren Froderman has influenced many dancers and dance appreciators, along with myself. Like Froderman, I have been dancing since I was three or four. Up until sixth grade I had taken multiple styles of dance classes including ballet, tap, jazz, and modern. By the end of my sixth grade year I took a new interest in cheer leading and gymnastics. Because of cost issues, my mom had me choose between cheer and dance. I decided to try-out for the cheer squad at my school and got a tumbling coach. I loved cheering and was surprisingly good at it. I made multiple All-Star positions and was even invited to cheer in parades in Hawaii and Pennsylvania.
While cheering was a blast, I always looked forward to the halftime performances where we would get to dance in our routine. By Freshman year I had made Junior Varsity but I wasn't getting the satisfaction out of cheering that I used to feel, so I finished the season and decided not to try out again. My friends and former fellow cheerleaders wanted to dance but there was no dance team at our school. We worked hard to get one started and by Junior year we became a part of the Tigerettes, a dance/color guard team. I had a blast on the team and made many new friends, however, since it was such a new organization we were lacking in talent and had to make many of our routines simpler. Again, I found myself in the same position as with cheering. I wanted more of a challenge with dance. Within the past year or so I have become obsessed with watching dance videos on YouTube. I especially like to watch ones from "SYTYCD". I love all of Froderman's performances but one in particular really sparked my interest. She and Twitch did a Hip-Hop routine to My Chick Bad (the link to watch this video is posted on 'Her Time on the Show' page) and it blew my mind. Other than some dancing I did during cheer performances, I had never practiced Hip-Hop before. After seeing this video I knew it was something that I wanted to try. My best friend Andi and I (pictured at left) decided we were going to join a Hip-Hop class at the Y. Since then I have bettered my dancing skills and broadened my dancing style. Lauren Froderman influenced me to dance again and I am so thankful she did.
